In its weekly roundup column, Upwork included my TechCrunch article on the Freelancer Generation and why enterprises need to realize the power that freelancers now hold. With more people migrating to freelancer status to enjoy the opportunity, increased revenue, greater flexibility and more balanced life, employers will have to get onboard with the idea of working in this type of relationship with some of the most talented individuals out there.

These companies need to realize the benefits I’ve experienced myself in hiring them, including not having to train them and not worrying about offering benefits like retirement plans or dealing with taxes. I also have access to talent that tends to work all types of hours or that are willing to take on large projects. They are eager to work and make the most of the freelancer lifestyle. Overall, it’s a more affordable and convenient way to get the help necessary for all types of projects — from programming to writing to graphic design.

The other article included in the wrap-up also backed up my article in quoting statistics about the incredible growth of freelancers into 2020 and beyond, so it’s time for companies and startups to take this part of the workforce very seriously.
